This is a handy utility to convert between various units. It supports both Decimal and Binary based units.

Kilo = 1000 - decimal based units are used for things such as:

    * Network Bandwidth

    * Hard Drives, Flash Drives, Floppy Drives sizes (as reported by manufacturer)

    * Audio/Video Compression

    * DVD/Blu-ray disc sizes

Kilo = 1024 - binary based units are used for things such as:

    * File sizes

    * File System size (reported by OS)

    * Computer Memory

    * CD-ROM sizes

Convert Base allows you to convert between Decimal and Binary units. Turn Convert Base = ON and toggle between 1 Kilo = 1000 / 1024.

Convert Base is handy so you can see approximately how much space that new 750GB hard drive really has.

Example - Enter 750 into the text field. Slide the slider to Gigabytes. Make sure 1 Kilo = 1000. Turn Convert Base to on. Then finally select 1 kilo = 1024. That will give you the approximate amount of actual data that can fit on the hard drive (698.49GB).
